Message for U.S. Citizens: Community Independence Day Celebration on July 11, 2015

The U.S. Embassy will host its annual Independence Day celebration for U.S. citizens and their families living in Rwanda on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the U.S. Embassy in Kigali. This year’s event will feature a free performance by the U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) Jazz Band. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase from Meze Fresh, Heaven, Mo Love, Mr. Chips, J. Lynn’s, and Zen. Please be sure that at least one member of your family brings a U.S. passport to enter the Embassy. Parking will be limited, so we encourage you to carpool.

As a reminder, we strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Rwanda enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Rwanda. For additional information, refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” on the State Department’s website.
